How to Make Har Gow (Traditional & Healthy Vegetarian Version)
Har Gow, a beloved dim sum dish in Malaysia, celebrates the rich Chinese culinary heritage within our multicultural landscape. Traditionally featuring succulent fillings wrapped in translucent dumpling skins, Har Gow has been adapted by Malaysians to include vegetarian ingredients, making it suitable for those seeking healthier and plant-based options. The vegetarian version uses locally sourced vegetables and aromatic additions like daun bawang (spring onion) and bawang putih (garlic), offering a fresh twist without sacrificing authenticity. In Malaysia, Har Gow is often enjoyed during lunch in bustling kopitiams, especially in states with significant Chinese communities such as Penang and Johor. Its delicate taste, coupled with a soft, chewy texture, makes it ideal for calorie-conscious diners seeking nutritious meals. The vegetarian filling, enriched with local produce like cendawan (mushrooms) and lobak merah (carrot), ensures a guilt-free indulgence.
